Description

The Cocktail Fruit Squeezer by Mappin & Webb is a stylish silver plated example dating to the early twentieth century during the Art Deco period, circa 1925.

Designed for preparing citrus fruit directly into a cocktail shaker or glass, the fruit squeezer is constructed with a screw down press operated by a turned handle above a fitted wooden bowl. The mechanism compresses fruit beneath the silver plated press allowing juice to pass through the pierced strainer below.

The body is raised upon an elegant curved stand terminating in a circular foot with the upper section fitted with side supports to stabilise the pressing mechanism. The combination of polished silver plate and dark wooden bowl gives the piece a strong contrast associated with refined cocktail accessories of the early twentieth century.

Signed by Mappin & Webb with electro plate hallmarks below the registration number 83902 and model number 408, the fruit squeezer is a good example of the specialised cocktail and bar accessories produced during the Art Deco period as home entertaining became increasingly fashionable during the 1920s and 1930s.
