Rosewood Veneered Jewellery Box with Inlaid Decoration

From our Jewellery Box collection, we are pleased to offer this Inlaid Rosewood Jewellery Box.

The jewellery box of rectangular form is beautifully veneered with a striking rosewood to the exterior and inlaid with two tones of brass, mother of pearl and abalone shell inlay in various scrolling motifs. To the lid there is a vacant initial plaque to the centre of the decoration with a matching escutcheon to the front. The interior of the jewellery box is lined in a cushioned dark emerald green velvet with contrasting silver partitions. The top tray features multiple partitions with two tracks of ring / cufflink holders to the outside. The top tray is removed via the side tabs to access further storage below with larger partitions.

The Jewellery Box dates to the middle of the 19th century early victorian period circa 1850.

The Jewellery Box comes with a tasselled key for decorative purpose, as the lock does not work.

Rosewood

has many variations. Indian Rosewood, also known as Bombay Rosewood or Bombay Blackwood, is found in India and Indonesia. It is highly valued for its striking appearance with colours ranging from a medium-brown to dark red-brown with even darker grain lines. Madagascan Rosewood, found in Madagascar is a pink-brown colour with a darker almost purple grain.

Mother of Pearl

is an organic-inorganic composite material produced by some molluscs as an inner shell layer. It is the same material that natural pearls are made from and is desirable due to its strong and resilient makeup along with its beautiful iridescent shimmer.

Victorian

is an era of British History corresponding approximately with the reign of Queen Victoria from the 20th of June 1837 until her death on 22 January 1901 however, there are arguments stating that the Victorian era is actually from 1820 until 1914 proceeded by Georgian era and followed by the Edwardian era.
