Double Opening Circa 1845

From our Writing Boxes collection, we are delighted to offer this large Military Style Mahogany Writing Box. The box of rectangular shape made of solid Mahogany with brass strapping and mounts to the exterior with flush mounted brass handles. The box opens in sections with the lid up and over and then the middle section towards you revealing the writing slope to the inside. The writing slope is lined in maroon coloured leather with a gold tooling border and impressed Greek key to the outer edge. The inner lid pad drops down to access a document storage and further compartment storage behind. The upper half of the slope lifts to allow access to the storage compartment below and the secret drawer which opens behind the false wall and houses three hidden drawers. The hidden drawer is accessed by pushing a secret press plate located in the pen storage between the inkwells (see photos). The Writing Slope dates the middle of the 19th century during the early reign of Victoria circa 1845.

This wonderful Military writing box comes with a fully functional lock & tasselled key.
