Dear Friends,

First of all a warm welcome to our new subscribers, and as always thanks to you all for taking time to read our fortnightly newsletter and a special thanks as always for your support and all your purchases.

Boris has been relaxing things in the country a little with pubs, restaurants and hairdressers opening their doors once again. Walking round my local town at the weekend seeing queues and queues for Hairdressers & Barbers was a site for sore eyes, I have been very lucky that Karen who does a wonderful job on all our interiors was a hair dresser, so we have been making good use of her other talent through out this pandemic. The Pubs and restaurants seemed to be dealing with all the new measures OK too in my region, not that I’ve frequented any of these establishments just yet, as happy to let the dust settle a little.

This week has also been a important, I was able to visit a trade fair for the first time in months, although not much to buy and very different than before. I arrived super early and shocked at the long queues already that had formed. Eager dealers to be first to find that special piece, with a real good buzz in the air. Finally we were let in, antibac in the hand and at the entrance, the fair was really well organised and has given me confidence in returning again very soon. I wish I could say the same about my buying but it was good to catch up with my pals and colleagues once again, we were like kids in a playground that have just returned from a long summer break..!

During this pandemic you may of noticed we have added some super items some of which have been snapped up and off to new homes, this weeks newsletter again contains some very special pieces which normally get kept back for fairs, or put aside for a catalogue. However, as we have no fairs to exhibit these pieces we, like all businesses, are changing and adapting how and what we do. So learning new skills and putting them into practice is great, some ideas we pull off and others we fail miserably. Me I’m not so techie and being a little to eager at times I make mistakes, the last newsletter had many broken links to items which is entirely my fault, I could explain more on this but its boring and the damage is done so let’s move on…!  Incidentally if my newsletter has any issues or our website please be so kind to let us know, it’s so frustrating when things go wrong so I’m keen to get it fixed If I can.

Please take time to look at some of these very impressive pieces, finding these is a real joy and hard work to acquire, as a passionate dealer selling them is even harder at times as some really do pull my heart strings, but that’s me and those of you I have met no doubt know this already.
We are so proud to have helped many collectors build some amazing collections, and continue to do this. Not all our pieces make the website or catalogues as we are sent all over the world to obtain such pieces for our clients, still things a little harder to do currently, but the internet and my keen eye does what it needs to do.

We are listening to your feedback and appreciate some items are a little out of reach, so we are now accepting layaway payment methods. Contact us for more details about the item you’d like to purchase.

ONLINE VIDEO
Mark helping with another project was asked by Ronati for a online video produced by them for them and us to use where ever we want. Marks first to say he has a face for Radio and hates cameras, so if you want to cringe with Mark please take a peek.

This video comes with an isolation hairstyle warning! ..

This week we are auctioning off a lovely Georgian tea chest that a “good runner” turned up with. (For those of you that don’t know that term, a “runner” is a buyer running around sourcing stock for me). I bought it at a very fare price and I would ask or invite you to bid on it. This is me trying something a little different.
The tea chest is in good order throughout, and even contains its original cut glass tea caddy bowl, worth £150- £200 alone. Its veneered in gorgeous flame mahogany with tulipwood and boxwood crossbandings to the top & front. The top has a lovely large bats-wing fan with an engraved Sheffield plated handle. This handle has left marks to the top all consistent with its age and use, I love it. The front has an oval shaped bone escutcheon. Opening the tea chest reveals two tea caddies with hinged tops that match the exterior, with each one superbly dovetailed. Removing these from their voids and placing them back, they slowly drop with cushions of air coming up their sides due to their superb fit made my master cabinet makers of their time. The center contains a elegant cut glass caddy bowl which is contemporary to the tea chest, but the velvet that surrounds the bowl has been replaced as is the red silk lined lid, but both look good.
This tea caddy is being offered for sale by auction, all we have had to do is cut a key.

If I’m going to be super critical the tea chest has a very slight warp / twist to the lid. That is its only flaw.

A WARNING ABOUT FAKES!

More and more of us are shopping online during these times which has seen a surge in rogues out there keen to prise you of your hard earned money. Please be careful when buying antiques online, fakers have been really busy and making lots of money!
So many flaws hidden by clever photography, added inlays, period caddies re veneered and turned into what appear to be rare unusual designs, these unscrupulous fraudsters giving us dealers a bad name!
So please, do your homework thoroughly on the person / dealer and the item you are looking to buy.

I am happy to give my opinion and will not charge you for my time especially if you’re a customer of ours. I do this for many of my collectors, after all I am as keen as you to help build the best collection money can buy.
