March 3rd Newsletter

Dear friends,

As always, we would like to express our thanks to those who have purchased from us recently.

Behind the scenes, Mark has been working extremely hard using his wealth of knowledge and proficiency to write a chapter about Tea Caddy Fakes for the upcoming release of Anne Stevens’ book “The Story of British Tea Chests and Caddies”. This is a must-buy book for historians, collectors and those interested in the decorative arts. Look out for our following newsletter for more information about our chapter in the book.

The launch of our brand new website started at the beginning of the month…if you haven’t already seen, the website has been completely redesigned to make your experience shopping for antiques so much easier. If you held an account on our previous website, please create a new account with us for a quicker and easier checkout.
Why do we Conserve?
Why we should look after our history

Many of our items have antiquity and a magnificent story behind them. By conserving our pieces, we also preserve the story and history behind the article.

At Mark Goodger Antiques, we are passionate about conserving our items, not only due to their historical importance but for their integrity. Unfortunately, over many years, some antiques have been forgotten or unloved by generations, so for this reason, we are devoted to reviving the lovely item! Our team of conservators pride ourselves on bringing these unloved pieces back to their formal glory, before going to their next keeper – to be showcased and admired in their beautiful new home. Our dedicated and passionate team are devoted to using their time to attentively and carefully prepare our pieces for you.

We are now introducing a chapter into our newsletter showcasing our favourite conserved piece of the week. We are giving you, our subscribers, a chance to see what happens behind the scenes – with what’s closely guarded within the industry of how some of our pieces come into our hands and are transformed into beautiful objects of desire.

Here, we have an example of an Antique Apple Tea Caddy we have recently spent our time conserving. This charming Fruit Tea Caddy was acquired from a collector several months ago, along with its original bill of sale 33 years ago! In the 1980s, an Apple Tea Caddy in perfect condition would have been in the region of £10-12k. Comparing the pr   ice to today’s money – shows just how much value these really are if purchased correctly. You can view the conservation work in the “BEFORE” images on the left, but for your clarification: the brass escutcheon was replaced with an old steel one. We replaced the stalk, and a brass butt hinge was replaced with an original steel stop hinge. Some pieces on the Caddy were wrongly added during a time in its life, hence why we conserved this item. Please click the image to see the “AFTER” results.
At Mark Goodger Antiques, we have the experience, authenticity, and advanced expertise to help you take home your chosen piece. You can now visit our showroom, where you will be free to view our charming, polished pieces in person. We have the experience, authenticity, and advanced expertise to help you take home your chosen piece. Contact us via email to arrange an appointment. We look forward to welcoming you soon.
