Well two weeks flash by since our last newsletter and here we find ourselves writing another informing you of our goings on. We have been lucky enjoying lots of Sun, but April showers are forecast so a few heavy down pours are now upon us. Living in the countryside we get to see more nature and the lovely goings on and with the lockdown here in full force, being able to walk in the fields that surround us we get the pleasure of seeing the newly born Lambs & Calves joyfully playing in the fields, lots of wild life and birds gathering twigs and grass for nesting. A indication of summer not being to far away, the arrival of the migrating Swallow, Swifts and House Martins returning from their long flights from sub-Saharan Africa to nest and bring up their young. Another beautiful sight is all the blossom on the trees, changing face of the countryside, dull brown fields that lay dormant and spring to life with lush green shoots. With that our gardens coming to life although great if you green fingered, something I have a go at but fail miserably, I like to think I’m good with a mower..!
What’s in a Box?
The fascination of the box and its history on seeing one we can’t help but want to peek inside, when opening it we then want to see if it holds any other secrets and what stories could it tell.
Boxes come in all shapes & sizes and made from all manner of materials from exotic timbers to Horn, Ivory & Tortoiseshell, our fascination with them is immense due to their sheer complexity and links with history and fashion. Many boxes were made by highly skilled cabinet makers for their practical uses, some depict fashion and a time in history others for practical and everyday uses.
Some boxes were commissioned for Kings & Queens and were made by cabinet maker firms who held royal warrants for their skilled craftsmanship. And now these beautiful time capsules are admired by us all and still used by many of us today, some have been altered for more practical uses to suit our modern world such as Jewellery Boxes or to keep that Tablet / Phone / Ipad as the quality of them will out last any modern equivalent today, most importantly the timbers & materials used 100 & 200 years ago are not available or can be used today. So next time you’re thinking of a practical gift think boxes.
We hope you are all in good health and staying safe in these trying times. Closely following government guidelines we are no longer taking appointments at our showroom. Our online services are still operating but there are certain postal restrictions in place due to the coronavirus. Prior to purchasing if you are uncertain of any postal restrictions where you live please get in contact and we will look into it.
This fabulous item we are putting up for sale to the highest bidder, all 100% of the proceeds will go to the fabulousNHS.. As a father with a daughter “Mia” (who some of you have met and seen at fairs) working on the front line of a private nursing home, being told some heart aching stories as she breaks down, is really hard in itself. All I want to do is give her a huge hug but social distancing does not allow me to do this, although we live under the same roof. She loves her job despite these new challenges and caring for others is what she’s good at. She said to me the other day when supplies of PPE were low and I suggested she not go back to work until its in place for your protection, “Dad our residents need care and love more than any other time, if all us carers thought like that then poor residents / patients would suffer even more, its especially hard as it is as they can’t see their loved ones”. Thats my Angel Mia and our little story.
This auction is for all the wonderful carers on the front line, from us to you all. xxx
