Rare four bottle Oak Betjemann Tantalus retailed by Mappin & Webb.
The Tantalus has a silver plated carry handle and decorative corner supports.

On the front of this Tantalus is A plaque which reads “Mappin & Webb Sheffield 77 & 78 Oxford St. Mansion House Buildings London”

The Decanters can be removed by pressing the the lock mechanism down which will allow the carrying handle to be pivoted backwards. The carrying handle is stamped with the following: “Betjemanns Patent London 3422″ ” The Tantalus”

Operating the lock and key: You have to push key into the barrel of the lock and whilst keeping the key pushed in to the sprung barrel turn the key anti clockwise will unlock the Tantalus, then push down on the barrel allowing you to pull the handle either towards or away from you to remove the decanters, if its already locked you will not be able to do this until the Tantalus is unlocked.
