Games

The Games Compendium was the ultimate choice of a pass time for the Victorian’s and was a must accessory for the affluent genteel.
Games Boxes normally comprise of a Chess and Backgammon board, Staunton Pattern Chess pieces (in Ivory, Wood or Bone), a cribbage board, two-finger pointers, a set of 30 backgammon counters (which can also be used for draughts), shakers, playing cards, a set of dice, poker chips/counters, whist and bezique markers, steeplechase game with six jockeys on horseback & several jumps.
There are many variations of the standard Games Box – they contain slightly different games or gaming supplies. At Mark Goodger Antiques, we stock a variety of games related boxes. We have Card Boxes, Mahjong, and Cribbage – they all come in a variety of exotic woods and veneers (including shagreen). As games are an enjoyable pastime, some games boxes can include decanters and spirit glasses – what better way to enjoy a game of cards than with a snifter of your favourite tipple!
