Description

Extremely rare antique apple in a basket tea caddy with beautiful mottled patination and colour throughout. The top of the apple has thicker than normal turned stalk all contemporary to the piece and the front having the usual cut steel oval escutcheon like other fruit tea caddies. At some point due to opening and closing the tea caddy apple has had some stress at the back, a clean break, its been re-glued many years ago very well. These areas on all fruit tea caddies are always susceptible to damage due to opening and closing, as well as handling when scooping tea.

The interior of the exquisite rare apple in a basket tea caddy retains some of it original foil lining, has steel hinge and working lock, comes with a replacement tasselled key.

The base of the caddy has light sage colour paper all totally original and a label which is unreadable.

This is only the second example we have ever had the pleasure of owning, and recall seeing one other in a collection.
