Description

Coromandel Tantaluswith sterling silver corner brackets and initial plate. All silver is hallmarked, London by the Betjemann Brothers (John George Betjemann & Ernest Edward Betjemann)
An unusual feature of this tantalus is it’s pivoting frame handle is made from wood, when usually they are made of solid brass and then silvered.
Containing three large hobnail cut glass decanters, with faceted stoppers and star-cut bases.

This antique silver & coromandel tantalus comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.

When locking the Tantalus always try it first with the swing arm in the open position so you feel the tolerance of the lock.

To unlock, the key must be pressed into the lock and held whilst turning as the key barrel is sprung. Turning clockwise unlocks and anti clockwise locks.

Once unlocked you can then push down on the key barrel towards the base. This will allow the swing arm to fold forwards or backwards to release the decanters.
