Description

Pair of rare Georgian cutlery urns specifically made for spoons, veneered in stunning panels of flame mahogany separated with a chequered Boxwood & Ebony herringbone inlay.

The fronts of these splendid Antique Cutlery Urns are adorned with a silver shield-shaped vacant initial plate & escutcheon. Each Georgian Urn stands on a square plinth base on ogee bracket feet, with satinwood crossbanding and dogtooth inlay. They are finished with beautifully shaped, turned finials.

Each comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock.

Famous quote: Richard Gillow, son of founding member Robert Gillow, was recorded as saying knife urns were expensive, difficult ad time-consuming to make – the expense being due to significant wastage of wood in creating the urn shape, hence their rarity and value today.
