Description

This Sterling Silver Smokers Compendium by Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, dated 1903, is of rectangular form and constructed in sterling silver with three graduated tiers, the lid engraved with scrolling vine and foliate decoration.

The upper tier contains a vesta compartment with a match strike fitted to the front. Beneath this, the second tier is gilded and intended for the storage of cigarettes, while the larger lower section forms a lined humidor for cigars. Each compartment is fitted with a slam-shut hinged mechanism, keeping the lids held closed under tension.

The rear of the base is engraved Goldsmiths and Silversmiths Company Ltd, 112 Regent St. W, and the compendium bears full London sterling silver hallmarks for Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company, 1903.
