Description

Description

This Glass Globe Match Striker by Henry Williamson Ltd, dated 1900, is formed with a clear glass globe body, tightly ribbed across the surface to provide the striking area for matches. A sterling silver band encircles the centre of the body, giving this example a slightly different construction from the silver mounted collars seen on the other strikers.

The silver band is hallmarked Birmingham, with the maker’s mark for Henry Williamson Ltd and the date letter a for 1900.

The compact globe form was designed as a practical tabletop accessory, allowing matches to be stored within the central opening and struck directly against the ribbed glass exterior.
