Description

This wonderful Tea Caddy has chinoiserie figures decorating the front of the box. The other faces and lid, are embellished with chinioserie architecture in black and gold giving a striking finish.

Inside is lined with marble paper instead of tin lining and the compartment lids have a floral pattern with bone handles.

Standing on four pressed ball feet this tea caddy has side handles, a fully working lock and tasseled key.

Japanned is the name given for European imitations of Asian lacquer work. It uses heat-dried layers of varnish that are polished to give a smooth, glossy finish.
