Description

Description

This superb Mahoganybox contains over fifty bottles (some with original contents) and seven drawers with flush-fitting brass handles.
It has seven porcelain glazed ceramic mixing trays with lids housed in the bottom drawer, the likes of which we have not seen before. Contains a bone-handled tongue scraper, three syringes of which one, by Joseph Gray & Sons, Truss Works, Sheffield, is stamped with the Royal warrant.
This was added a little later to the box as the firm was established in 1849; they won many prizes for their surgical and obstetric equipment. The cabinet also contains a measuring jug, glass stirring stick, glass pestle & mortar, brass & iron scales & weights in their own lockable box, and lots of other interesting pieces.

The back of the cabinet has a secret compartment that can only be accessed by sliding a concealed brass pin housed inside the cabinet by the hinge; once unlocked, the sliding door on the back reveals further glass medicine containers.

This Antique Apothecary Cabinet comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.

The Apothecary box does come with original contents some of which are liquid, you can be rest assured extra care will be taken to pack this so that any of its contents will not be spilt in transit. One bottle has a chip the the base which can be seen on the website, otherwise everything is in good order.
