Antique brass bound writing box typical of the regency period with greek key brass inlay on the front and top. With robust solid brass edging and campaign-style flush fitting handles. With a large vacant ornate initial plate and matching escutcheon. Contains secret drawers and a pair of Sheffield plate inkwells.

Lifting the lid of this elegant regency writing box reveals a leather-backed letter compartment with gold tooling and seven compartments, each labelled with a day of the week. This whole compartment folds down to reveal the letter/document compartment.
The front of the box is also hinged and folds down to reveal its matching dark blue leather and gold-tooled writing surface. The surface lifts at the front to reveal a storage space and a cross ribboned back for storing letters and cards. The top half of the regency writing slope is lockable and also lifts to reveal storage space with cross ribboned back, this compartment contains secret! With the right-hand inkwell removed the base of its storage compartment can be pressed which causes a false wall to spring forward revealing three hidden drawers!

This writing box comes with a fully working lock and a tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock.
