Description
Unusual and rare Cribbage Games box by Betjemann & Sons veneered in enhanced figured Olive Ash, has engraved gilded mounts with two removable Ivory Crib marker boards. This fabulous box once belonged to Lady Hambledon of the famous shop chain WHSmiths.
The interior opens by releasing the catch on the top, the box then opens to reveal a rich satinwood interior faced in coromandel. This particular box belong to Lady Hambleden of the Whsmith family.
Cribbage, or Crib, is traditionally a card game for two players, but is more commonly played with three or four, that involves grouping cards in combinations to gain points.
The Firm comprised of George Betjemann and his two sons; George William Betjemann & John Betjemann. John was the grandfather of Sir John Betjeman.
