Coromandel Silver dressing case by London Silversmiths Thomas Whitehouse 1875 Retailed by Parkins & Gotto, has original leather carrying case.
Sterling silver dressing case with gilded monogram and accoutrements, brass bound with double stringing. The lid of the Antique Dressing Box is lined with a purple / blue ruched velvet, this springs forward to reveal a reversible mirror & letter envelope for storing letters, it also has special engraved mirror holder levers which we have not seen before on a vanity.
The interior contains twelve beautiful glass silver & gilded monogrammed bottles with the letters M.A.R. The glass bottles and toiletry containers are all in good condition. A lift out tray is in the centre on which there is a set of silver gilded accoutrements.
This beautiful vanity box contains a jewellery drawer to the front, to access this you need unlock it using the key then push the brass button in between the two hinges at the back of the box, the drawer springs forward revealing blue velvet & silk lined compartments for storing jewellery and pocket watch.
The box also has a side drawer to access this there is a pin located on the left of the box which when pressed activates the spring loaded drawer. On the outer edge of the drawer is a plaque that reads: PARKINS & GOTTO OXFORD ST LONDON
