Description

Writing box features two secret compartments one of them being a top secret document drawer. The writing box is veneered in lovely figured burr walnut with brass edging, stringing, escutcheons and has campaign style carrying handles.

The interior of rather impressive Victorian Writing Box opens to reveal stunning rich Coromandel veneer with decorative brass reinforced corners, a pen tray, pair of original crown screw top brass inkwells, nib holder, lidded compartment and beautiful black leather and gold tooled writing surface with a non functional lock. The writing surfaces when opened reveals storage area and has a large side drawer which can only be accessed when the writing box is in the open position, and the brass pin is removed on the left hand side.

Opening the smaller writing surface near the pentray section reveals storage for letters and documents and is where the first secret compartment can be revealed. To open it you need to pull up on the left hand divider next to the slanted nib holder, once pulled a sprung cover springs open to reveal three small drawers.

Top Secret Compartment!

To open the secret document drawer you need to leave the box in its open position and have already accessed the small three drawers, remove the small secret drawer underneath the nib and inkwell compartment, then remove the brass pin located on the left hand side of the box which is keeping the large drawer from being pulled open, remove the long drawer. Now pushing your index finger into and along the side where the small drawer was you will be able to feel a slight join, push or squeeze here then the secret document drawer drops from inside the large void where the long drawer was pulled from. To put it back into position just push it all the way back and angle it so it slots into the gap at the very back top and push back up with your fingers allowing it to lock back into position.
