Description

Brass bound Mahogany Writing Boxwith flush fitting carry handles, brass escutcheon and initial plate which reads: “Edward C Harrington, Clerk, A. M.”, contains secret sovereign drawer as well as two other secret drawers.

The interior features a green baize writing surface. Unlocking and lifting the bottom half of the surface reveals a large storage area with the back of the surface being cross banded with ribbon for holding letters and cards.

The top half of the writing can only be lifted by pressing the brass button located under the pen tray which is cleverly concealed in the divider near the writing surface to the top. Once open, it reveals a removable tray made of cuban mahogany which is beautifully dovetailed with further storage underneath. This also allows access to the hidden drawers. Removing the top right ink well and pressing the base of its compartment will cause the rear section of the right hand compartment to spring forward and reveal two hidden drawers.

The left hand side secret compartment has a similar false backing which can be removed by pressing the side wall of the compartment, once done reveals a superb sovereign drawer.

This fabulous writing box comes with a fully working locks and keys the main lock being the famous Bramah lock. It also contains two inkwells.

The exterior has been re-polished with the interior being left as we found it, the left hand hinge has been repaired and an extra screw has been added for extra strength.

This is a fabulous writing box is made of solid mahogany with unusual interior and would make a great addition to any collection.
