Description

Antique Brass Bound Jewellery Boxwith vacant brass shield shaped initial plate and escutcheon. The front and top are adorned with brass stringing and detailed ornate engraved brass corners, with flush fitting carry handles on each side.

Lifting the lid reveals a blue velvet lined interior with ten padded compartments including two for rings, earrings or cufflinks. The underside of the lid houses a removable velvet & silk back mirror with gold told surround. Behind the mirror is a blue leather secret letter compartment.

The lock keep on the lid at the top edge of the box has three screws, place your thumb underneath the middle screw under the front edge of the box, you will feel a indentation squeeze this and the mirror will spring forward, this can be removed to allow access to the letter compartment and the mirror can be turned if preferred.

With the lid lifted the front can be pivoted down to reveal three jewellery drawers with engraved silvered handles which match the silvered hinges and lock mechanism of this box.

This wonderful large jewellery box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key. Making it a practical as well as beautiful piece of furniture.

Calamander or Coromandel is a valuable wood found in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. It has a contrasting hazel-brown colour with black grain. It is a dense, heavy wood that is so popular it has been logged to extinction over the last few hundred years.
