Description
A beautiful coromandel and satinwood lined Writing Box, by W. C. Fuller. With exquisite inlays of mother of pearl, abalone and brass depicting two bird perched on a bath, while the surrounding design continues on the front of the box.
The interior features a deep maroon and gold tooled leather writing surface which can be lifted at the bottom to reveal a large satinwood lined storage compartment, and at the top, revealing another large storage compartment which has a secret!
Removing the right hand inkwell and pressing the lower right had side of its compartment will cause a false wall to spring forward revealing three coromandel secret drawers with turned handles.
Calamander or Coromandel is a valuable wood found in India, Sri Lanka and South East Asia. It has a contrasting hazel-brown colour with black grain. It is a dense, heavy wood that is so popular it has been logged to extinction over the last few hundred years.
This makes Calamander and Coromandel pieces even more special.
