Description
Antique tea caddy veneered in rare amboyna with boxwood and ebony inlays on each side. It has Ebony quadrant edges with double boxwood stringing and has a moulded shaped plinth and stands on four turned ebony feet. With the front having a shaped mother of pearl escutcheon and two Ebony ring carry handles on either side.
Opening the splendid antique tea caddy reveals two tea compartments with matching chamfered lids, complete with turned wooden handles. The underside of the lid features a diamond pattern inlay of Coromandel with Mahogany and a green and black stained Sycamore . Most unusual inlay to have in the top of the tea caddy. One of the hinges has been replaced at some point, the other hinge is stamped with registered trademark and name “Moore”. This is due to its clever stop hinge keeping the lid at 90 degrees when opening.
This fabulous tea caddy comes with a fully working lock, tasselled key and retains most all of its original silver paper lining.
