Antique figured walnut writing box with brass straps and corner brackets containing secret drawers and campaign-style handles. With a large brass plaque on the top that is engraved with “Presented to Robt Paterson by a few Companions on the occasion of his marriage 25th June 1902”

The interior of this fabulous walnut writing box is veneered in ebonised sycamore framing a replaced gold-tooled olive leather writing surface, has two replacement brass threaded glass inkwells, either side a pen tray, nib compartment and lid with brass handle. . The lower half can be lifted to reveal large storage space underneath. The top half also lifts to reveal storage space and a secret compartment behind a false wall containing three drawers. To access these drawers you need to pull up on the right-hand inkwell divider. This will cause the false wall to spring forward.

On the right-hand edge of the open box is a brass retaining pin which keeps the side drawer secure. Removing this allows the drawer to be accessed.

This antique writing slope comes complete with a fully working lock and tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock
