Antique writing box veneered in sumptuous figured coromandel with ornate brass mounts with beautiful hand-painted porcelain plaques depicting cherubs, each one is sublime and of the highest quality.

Unlocking this magnificent writing slope allows the large part of the slope to be opened revealing its original gold-tooled purple velvet writing surface. The top half of the writing slope has a ribbon loop handle which can be used to lift it to allow access to large storage space underneath. On the back of the surface is a brass retailers plaque that reads: “Trussell BRIGHTON”. Above the slope underneath the dome-shaped lid is a removable padded pen tray complete with a mother of pearl handled pen, pencil and letter opener. Flanked by leather-bound “Berrys Patent” light and inkwell, each with engraved brass tops.

Although not signed this magnificent box has all the traits of the Betjemann & Son workshop, therefore we attribute this fine piece to them.

This writing box comes with a fully working lock and a tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock.
