Antique writing box containing two secret compartments, veneered in exotic coromandel with double strung brass, brass edging and vacant initial plate and matching escutcheon.

The interior of this magnificent writing box features a gold-tooled leather writing surface in excellent condition. Each half of this writing surface can be lifted to reveal storage space underneath. However, the upper half has a secret! It has three hidden drawers behind a false wall. These can be accessed by gently pulling on the divider just to the left of the right-hand inkwell. This will cause the false wall to spring forward. However, the secrets don’t end there!
With the box open there is a small brass retaining pin which keeps the side drawer in place. With this removed the drawer can be slid all the way out. Then removing the furthest right secret draw and pressing on the right-hand side wall of its slot will cause a tray to drop down into the side drawers compartment.

This antique writing box comes with a fully working lock and a tasselled key, as well as two crown top inkwells.
