Description

Antique Sterling Silver Vanity box by “David Edwards” with double strung brass on the front and top and a monogrammed initial plate, veneered in the most beautiful figured Rosewood which over time has faded to this wonderful rich colour.

The interior of the box houses nine sterling silver topped glass jars and a large fully fitted removable tool pad with various mother of pearl handled tools. The jars are housed in a leather-lined removable tray. Underneath this tray is a large storage compartment. Underneath the large tool pad is another storage compartment.
The sterling silver topped jars are fully hallmarked by London Silversmiths “Frances Douglas”. 1849
The underside of the main lid houses a gold-tooled leather blotter that has a manufacturer label that reads: “Edwards, Manufacturer to Her Majesty. 21 King St Bloomsbury, London.”
Behind this blotter in the lid of the box is a free-standing leather-bound mirror.

This David Edwards Silver Vanity box features and fully working Bramah Lock and key. The key must be pressed into the sprung lock whilst turning clockwise to unlock.
The lock keep is marked: “J Bramah 124 Piccadilly”
