We have finally reached summer and the 1st of August, Mark has managed to find a couple of months rest between exhibitions allowing us to focus on getting stock photographed, catalogued and online as it has been building up rapidly in the stock room. We are also extremely excited with another project we have been working on which will be revealed over the next several weeks so watch this space!
This newsletter we have chosen to feature this absolutely superb Regency period Chinoiserie Penwork Tea Caddy raised upon four ball feet with a slight sarcophagus tapered shape. It is extensively decorated to the exterior with unusual greek wording amongst Chinese influenced scenes. Did you know Chinoiserie decoration became popular as ‘Westerners’ tried to emulate the exotic and unknown Chinese culture, it was particularly popular in the 18th century and early 19th century. This Tea Caddy captures both history and culture while having a decorative and useful purpose as a tea caddy, a really good example.
Our second featured piece is this Antique Mahogany Watch Box which has been lovingly conserved into a very usable box. It is partitioned to hold twelve personal watches with a larger central compartment suitable for a modern smartphone or jewellery.
