Rosewood Sewing box by R Dalton inlaid with stunning mother of pearl on the top and front, standing on four turned ribbed feet with wooden ring handles and small brass barrel escutcheon.

The magnificent interior is lined in vibrant yellow paper and gold-tooled burgundy leather. Featuring a removable tray that houses eight bone thread reels, tape measure, two-needle books, two pincushions, and an empty tool pad that has a label attached to its underside which reads: 'R. Dalton portable writing desk fancy cabinet and pocketbook manufacturer. Counters No's 739, 740, 741, 742, 743 & 744 & at 201, 202, 203, 204, 205, 237 ground floor, Bazaar, Soho Square. Ladies toilet & scent bottles, Fancy cutlery &c.' Removing this main tray reveals a large storage space underneath.

The underside of the lid of this sewing box has ruched silk and tooled leather-backed letter compartment.

This wonderful sewing box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key. The key must be turned clockwise to unlock.
