Japanese lacquered Nashiji box adorned with beautiful gold landscape scenes on all sides. Some sections are enhanced with subtle embossing.

Lifting the lid of this Japanese lacquered box reveals a beautiful textured orange/gold finish, this is also replicated on the base. This is from the Nashiji lacquer technique which involves sprinkling different sized flakes of gold, silver, copper and other metal alloys, at different angles in layers of wet 'nashiji urushi', an orange-tinted lacquer. It gets its name from its similarity to the skin on a Nashi pear.
