Coromandel brass bound silver Vanity Box by Halstaff & Hannaford, London with brass escutcheons and ornate monogram : MBC complete with coronet.

This fabulous silver vanity box once belonged to Lady Mary Stanhope Countess Beauchamp,wife of Frederick Lygon, 6th Earl Beauchamp.Opening the box reveals a ruched velvet backed free standing mirror, housed inside the lid. Just below this is a brass plaque which reads:
Halstaff & Hannaford 228. Regent Street. The countesses box contains twelve engraved silver lid glass jars or various shapes and sizes, each bearing the countess of beauchamps coronet & initials by London Silversmiths “Williamson & Horton dated 1867”. In the center is a velvet lined tool pad complete with tweezers, scissors, pen knife, nail file and retractable pen with a semi precious purple stone. The box also contains a framed portrait of Lady Mary Stanhope Countess Beauchamp and a personalised bible given by her father which reads; “Mary C Stanhope, Feb 9th 1856 – from her very affectionate Papa”.

The separate lockable drawer to the front of the box can be fully removed to reveal seven velvet lined jewellery compartments, one of which is specially lined to accommodate rings, earrings or cuff-links. Items placed in this drawer will be held secure by a leather velvet backed lid.

This sterling silver vanity box comes with a fully working by S. Mordan of London. It is similar to a bramah lock, being spring loaded. To unlock the key must be pressed into the lock whilst turning clockwise to unlock.
The second lock on the drawer below is a regular lock which the key must be turned clockwise to unlock.
