Shaped as an Apple

From our Tea Caddy collection, we are delighted to offer this superb Continental Antique Apple Fruit Tea Caddy. The Tea Caddy turned from Sycamore and modelled as a novelty Apple with a shaped cut stalk, shaped body and shaped cut steel escutcheon. The Tea Caddy features the original faint red blush to the exterior. When opened the Caddy reveals traces of the original tin foil lining for housing Tea leaves. The Apple Fruit Tea Caddy dates to the Georgian period during the reign of George III Circa 1800 but is of continental origin. This is a superb example with a beautiful patination and shape.

It is commonly believed that the the Fruit Tea Caddies are made from fruitwood and are of English origin however they are actually made from Sycamore wood and are Continental.

The Tea Caddy comes complete with working lock and tasselled key.

Sycamore, also known as Harewood is a member of the Maple family, found in Europe. It is light yellow in colour and is often a very clean wood, with a straight, fine grain. The wood is often pippy. However, these pips are usually a very similar colour to the rest of the wood making them hardly visible.

Antique a collectable object such as a piece of furniture or work of art that has a high value because of its age and quality. Objects of this nature are generally considered antique at 100 plus years of age.
