Antique Eglomisé Tea Caddyfeaturing reverse mirror gold leaf panels that depicts an ancient ruin, with the other panels featuring flowers or floral patterns. Some of the panels have suffered some damage.
The interior features two lidded compartments with their original lining still largely intact. The lids feature bone handles. The underside of the caddies lid houses a mirror.
The Verre Eglomisé technique is named after the 18th-century French art-dealer Jean-Baptise Glomy (1711-1786) who sold drawings framed by glass borders glinting with gold and whom made popular the technique that dates back to Roman times.
This rare eglomise tea caddy comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.
