Description

Military writing boxwith made of solid Mahogany with brass stringing, edging, ornate initial plate and flush fitting campaign carrying handles.

The interior features a replacement black leather and gold tooled writing surface, a brass top travelling ink well and tray for holding pens and pencils. The bottom half of the writing surface lifts up to reveal a cross ribboned back and storage area and a removable reading rail. The rail can be placed on the exterior of the box using its brass locating pins, then the lid can be propped at an angle using the brass lectern inside the box. It also contains two candle sconces both housed in a lidded compartment next to the travelling inkwell.

Underneath the top half of the writing surface is a rarely seen feature on writing boxes is this removable lockable and beautifully dovetailed box with flush fitting campaign handle which provides further safe storage space. Removing the box allows access to the secret hidden compartment containing three drawers each with turned bone handles with the center drawer being for sovereigns. This can be accessed by removing the pen tray and pressing the base of the right hand divider.

This georgian military writing box comes with a fully working locks and tasselled keys and has fantastic untouched colour and patination, a true collectors piece.
