RosewoodWriting Box with impressive inlaid brass on the top and front with two flush campaign style carrying handles to the sides.

The interior features a its original deep red leather and gold tooled writing surface with pen tray and two ink wells. Lifting the front half the writing surface reveals a storage compartment and a later cross banded ribbon on the underside of the surface for holding letters and cards. The rear half of the writing surface lifts to reveal further storage space and two hidden, bone handle, secret drawers hidden behind a sprung cover.

To access the secret compartment you need to remove the inkwell from the left hand side next to the sloping knib compartment, then pushing down on the floor of the compartment where the inkwell was the sprung cover opens revealing the two drawers.
