Description

Art Deco Silver enamelled cigarette box by Birmingham silversmiths “Henry Mathews”. The fantastic enamelled picture of a train travelling across a bridge has been painted and designed very much in the manner of Clarice Cliff. Due to the art work that was acquired along with this piece we know it to be the work of F.Thomas. The colours and abstract style of this work are reminiscent of Clarice’s work which was hugely fashionable around this period. The interior is lined with satin birch and has a removable divider.

This unique silver box comes with the original framed art work by F.Thomas.

The Back of the picture is signed F.Thomas May 1930 with a description which reads;

Original Water colour Art Deco design for enameled silver cigarrette box.
