Art Deco Circa 1930

From our Barware collection, we are pleased to offer this Art Deco Glass Decanter with Fitted Tray. The Decanter of bottle tapered form with clean cut faceted sides with the original matching stopper. The Decanter bottle sits in the original silver plate tray with stylised loop handles. The base of the tray is stamped C. G & Co, EPNS (Electro Plated Nickel Silver), Made in England. The Decanter & tray date to the first half of the 20th century during the Art Deco period Circa 1930.

Charles S. Green & Co (C.G & Co.) The business was established in 1905 by Charles S. Green. Charles was assisted in the business by his wife Winifred who was a known talented artist and alone designed all the firm’s early patterns. The firm moved to Cogent Works, 54 St.Paul’s Square in 1907 and again in 1982 to a new factory at Lionel Street, Birmingham. The firm used the trade mark Cogent Plate.

Silver Plate refers to a method of applying a thin layer of silver to a base metal such as brass. Therefore it refers to an item which is not solid silver but plated to the outer coating.

Art Deco was a style of visual arts, architecture, and product design that first appeared in France in the 1910s. It flourished in the United States and Europe during the 1920s to early 1930s. It was hugely prevalent through styling and design of the exterior and interior of anything from large structures to small objects and even influenced fashion and jewellery. Art Deco has influenced bridges, buildings, ships, ocean liners, trains, cars, trucks, buses, furniture, and everyday objects like radios and vacuum cleaners. It has become extremely popular today and is highly desirable to collectors and trendsetters in the fashion industry.
