Coromandel Tantalusby George Betjemann & Sons. The Tantalus has a silver plated carrying handle and sterling silver decorative corners supports on all four sides which is rarely seen as most have silver plated brass, each one of these carries the hall mark from the famous London maker “Betjemann & Sons”, which is dated 1905. The Tantalus contains three fabulous lead crystal cut glass decanters with a diamond pattern which is repeated on the stoppers, the base of the decanters have a star cur pattern decanters with faceted and star cut bases.

The Decanters can be removed by pressing the the lock barrel down which will allow the carrying handle to be pivoted forwards or back. The carrying handle is stamped with the following: “Betjemanns Patent 42454 London” ” The Tantalus”

Important information on how to lock and unlocking a Tantalus.

When locking the Tantalus always try it first with the swing arm in the open position so you feel the tolerance of the lock.

Operating the Bramah lock and key: You have to push key into the barrel of the lock and whilst keeping the key pushed in to the sprung barrel turn the key anti clockwise will unlock the Tantalus, then push down on the barrel allowing you to pull the handle either towards or away from you to remove the decanters, if its already locked you will not be able to do this until the Tantalus is unlocked.
