Description

Antique Jewellery boxveneered in striking coromandel with brass edging and escutcheon.

This beautiful jewellery box has an interesting Betjemann patent opening mechanism that when opened the front folds down, and the two winged storage compartments swing out through ninety degrees, this is then reversed when closing. The box is beautifully lined in black silk and purple velvet. Once fully opened it contains a removable silk lined jewellery tray. The lid of the jewellery box contains a removable leather mirror and hidden secret letter compartment.

To access the secret letter compartment:

The lock keep on the lid at the top edge of the box has three screws, place your thumb underneath the middle screw under the front edge of the box, you will feel a indentation squeeze this and the mirror will spring forward, this can be removed to allow access to the letter compartment and the mirror can be turned if preferred.

On the front edge is a brass retailers label which reads:
A. Klein Boulevard desCapucines, 6, Paris This betjemann patent jewellery Box comes with a fully working bramah lock and two bramah tasselled keys.
