Description
Presented here is a lovely Twin Burr Yew Tea Caddy, which is featured in a British book about Tea Chests and Caddies.
Inside this Antique Tea Caddy is a rare makers label by London furniture maker H.Spencer – Henry Spencer which reads “H. Spencer, Manufacturer, 74 Lamb’s Conduit Street, Five doors from Theobalds Road. London.”.
Standing on an incredibly unique brass ball & claw feet, and edged in boxwood, this Twin Tea Caddy also has lovely shaped Lion Mask side handles. The underside of the lid is lined with crimson-red leather, which is where the maker’s label shows. Opening the box reveals two original Bone handled lids, also made from beautiful Burr Yew wood, which both sit on supports.
This Regency Tea Caddy by Henry Spencer is accompanied by a fully working lock and a tasselled key. It has a standard lock which must be turned clockwise to unlock.
This charming Burr Yew Tea Caddy is pictured and presented in the expertly researched book: The Story of British Tea Chests and Caddies by Anne Stevens, (Part 1.Chapter 2, at the top-left of Page 46), an in-depth study of the relevance of tea, tea chests and caddies to British society – this is a must-buy book for historians, collectors and those interested in the decorative arts.
