Rare brass bound Military MahoganyCaptains Writing Boxby W. Day of 353 Strand & Charing Cross, London. His trade card mentions him to be By his Majesty Royal Letters Patent, Trunk maker to Duke of York & Sussex.

The box has flush fitting brass carry handles and escutcheons.
The interior features a black leather writing surface, a pen tray and ink well. The writing surface folds back to reveal two storage areas, in the lower compartment is a reading rail this can be removed and located in the exterior back brass edge by two small holes, the lecturn inside also allows you to have the box angled to read your notes or book on. It also features a label which reads: “W. DAY manufacturer to their Majesties. 353, Strand, London” The front escutcheon has been replaced at some point in its past, hence the colour is slightly different to the rest of the untouched brass, the lecturn support is also a replacement.

The left hand edge of the box has a removable key which can be used to turn the triangular pegs on each side of the box to secure the box to a surface.

This writing box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.
