Description

A nineteenth-century antique writing box is presented here, which retains its original leather outer casing. This writing box is veneered with beautiful coromandel wood. An elaborately engraved brass monogram of “M. A. V.” appears on the top of the box along with a brass escutcheon on the front.

The box opens to reveal an ornate gold-tooled black leather writing surface. As the lower half of the writing surface is lifted, a storage space with a cross ribbon backing is revealed. It can be accessed for the purpose of storing stationery.

The leather case is fleece lined to help protect the box whilst in transit and has the monogram “M. A. V.”

Further storage space with a matching cross-band ribbon backing is revealed in the upper half. A secret lies within this storage space… A small brass pin is located underneath the pen tray which permits access to the secret drawers: When the box lock mechanism is locked, the brass pin can be pressed down the side of the locking mechanism (as shown in the images) thereby allowing the false wall in the storage space to be pushed forward, revealing two more small drawers.

With this wonderful Coromandel Writing Box, you will find an elegant tasselled key which operates a fully functional Bramah lock.
