Presented here is an Antique Vanity box featuring Sterling Silver, veneered with exotic Coromandel and trimmed with brass quadrants and fine double stringing. 

Because of the brass inlay decoration, this vanity box is believed to have been made by Austin of Dublin.

This magnificent silver dressing box features an escutcheon and a matching-shaped initial plate, engraved with a monogram. A lift of the lid reveals a luxurious interior that includes 14 exquisitely engraved silver-topped hobnail-cut glass jars in a variety of shapes and sizes, each with a matching monogram.

Thomas Whitehouse, a London silversmith, has engraved his hallmark on the silver of this piece which is dated 1871.

By pressing a secret catch under the lock keep, a leather document pouch is revealed under the ruched velvet-covered mirror on the underside of the lid. With the help of a small brass clasp, the mirror can be repositioned in either direction.

A hinged front on the box allows it to be folded forward so that two drawers can be accessed when the lid is open. The lower has a gold-tooled leather top which covers velvet-lined jewellery compartments, with a central pad for various mother-of-pearl sewing tools and spaces for different articles of jewellery. Including a fitted strip for holding rings, earrings and cufflinks. The upper drawer features a leather base.

This silver vanity box comes with a fully working lock and tasselled key.
