Aquarium table cigarette lighter by Alfred Dunhill.

This “half-giant” size lighter features reverse carved and painted Lucite panels with the decoration of fish swimming underwater and features a gold plated mechanism with the name “Dunhill” on the snuffer arm.
The underside is marked “Made in England” with “Dunhill Lighter” on the fill screw.

Each scene on these aquarium lighters is unique, in the 1950’s Ben Shillingford worked for Alfred Dunhill and perfected the art of carving and painting lucite panels to resemble miniature aquariums.

This Dunhill Aquarium table lighter is in original used condition and has recently been fully serviced and in good working order. Striking this Aquarium lighter you need to raise the ‘Dunhill’ arm protecting the wick, a good strike using your thumb will spark the flint causing the wick to ignite. The base has a screw that conceals the wadding for the lighter fuel, this must be fuelled before lighting. Most tobacconists sell this fuel as well as replacing wicks and wadding.
