A stunning pair of Georgian Cutlery Urns with shaped mahogany panels, each separated by boxwood & ebony stringing. Sitting on a square plinth base, with boxwood edging, standing on Ogee shaped bracket feet and the top adorned with a turned acorn finial.
Each circular moulded top of the Georgian cutlery urn lifts to reveal a stepped interior that houses 32 cutlery pieces.
Georgian Mahogany Cutlery Urns in the style of Gillows of Lancaster.
Richard Gillow, son of founding member Robert Gillow, was recorded as saying knife urns were expensive, difficult ad time-consuming to make – the expense being due to significant wastage of wood in creating the urn shape, hence their rarity and value today.
