Description
Henri Desgrangeillustration in striking black frame.
Illustration by Milivoj Uzelac, a Croatian Artist 1897 – 1977 born in Mostar, now Bosnia Hercegovina.
From a collection of prints made for Maurice and Jacque Goddet’s book, “Les Joies du Sport” published in Paris as a limited run of 750. They were created using the “pochoir” technique.
Pochoir (French “stencil”) is a highly refined technique of making limited editions of stencil prints. It is often referred to as hand colouring, or hand illustration. The 20th Century artists Pablo Picasso and Joan Miro made prints using this technique for book illustrations.
Henri Desgrange 1865 – 1940 was a French cyclist, lawyer and sports editor. In 1903 he was the organiser of the first Tour De France.
