Jaques & Son Travelling Chess Set complete with original leather case.

The case has a gold tooled label on the front which reads: “The In Statu Quo Chess Set Jaques & Son Ltd Patentees London”

Also on the front of the box is an impressed name which reads: “A. W. E. Holden”

Inside is the travel chess set which when removed folds flat to reveal the board, stained red and natural bone pieces. The chess pieces are held in place by a clever locking mechanism. Each side can be released by pressing the single coloured button on the inner edge. The pieces can be locked in place again by pressing the two buttons on the outside of the board at either end. This allows the game to be packed away and continued at a later date.

A small rule book is also included which has been stamped: “McEWEN & BAYNHAM Military & Sports Outfitters Saddlers etc. MONMOUTH”
