Description
Antique Mauchline Ware Tea Chest made of Sycamore with wonderful penwork design and the view from Craigleith quarry, Edinburgh.
This wonderful Tea Chest is decorated with an exquisite Oakleaf pattern with Acorns. The top of the mauchline ware tea chest is decorated with floral patterns framing Craigleith quarrys wonderful landscape and countryside scene with shepherds and a town in the horizon. Possibly the work of Charles Stiven.
Lifting the lid to this tea chest reveals two removable tea caddies with fine penwork grapevines on hinged lids. Each with traces of its original lining.
The hinge on this tea chest has suffered in the past through wear and tear, although works fine someone many years ago has adapted it a little and added brass hinges where its become weak. We decided to leave this alone when considering conserving this fine piece, the price reflects this too.
This tea chest comes with a fully working lock and key.
