Antique Coromandel writing box inlaid with intricate beautiful engraved mother of pearl, brass, copper alloy and abalone inlay by Mechi, London, contains two drawers hidden in a secret compartment.

The writing box has a replaced red leather gold tooled writing surface. Underneath the lower half of the slope is a large storage space. Underneath the upper half is another storage space, but this one has a secret! The top compartment wall has a retailer’s label that reads: “Made by Mechi, 4 Leadenhall St. London”. Removing the right-hand inkwell and pressing on the right side of its compartment causes this wall to spring forward revealing two hidden drawers!

This writing box comes with a fully working lock and a tasselled key.
