Description
Georgian Military Mahogany writing boxwith brass straps running from front to back, brass corner braces, initial plate and ornate escutcheon. Contains secret drawers and has fantastic patination.
The interior features its original baize cloth writing surface. Lifting the front half of the slope reveals a storage space and reading rail which can be removed and attached to the top of the box. The back of the flap has replaced green ribbons too.
The rear half of the writing slope lifts to reveal further storage and allows access to the hidden drawers. The drawers are revealed by removing the the brass retaining pin from the right edge of the box then pressing it into a hole located underneath the top right inkwell. Applying pressure will cause the false wall to spring open. Removal of this brass pin also gives you access to the side drawer on the left hand side of the box.
The back edge of this box also has to brass holes to hold the candle sconces found to the right of the pen try.
This fabulous Georgian writing box has a green label that reads as follows:
Industry “PRATT” -48- Newington-Caufeway.
This writing slope comes with fully working locks and tasselled keys.
